Recovery and Follow Up Care
Do not eat anything for the first hour following the procedure. It would be best to eat soft foods for the rest of the day. It is advisable to chew on the opposite side until treatment is completed and a crown has been placed on the tooth if needed. Even if you were not experiencing any discomfort prior to treatment, it is normal for you to experience some degree of soreness for a few days. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm.
Discomfort may be prevented by taking 2 x 200mg of ibuprofen (Advil) along 325mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) every 6 hours. Note for those for whom NSAIDs (Aspirin/Ibuprofen) are contraindicated 500mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be taken every 6 hours as an alternative. Warm salt water rinses (1/2 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water) may also help. Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with the above medications or should a swelling develop, please contact our office.
